Paying for links?

I thought selling (or buying) links was a guaranteed way to get banned by Google? If so, how can a reputable site like networksolutions get away with it? See the link below.

http://www.networksolutions.com/web-site...

Here鈥檚 another one, http://www.textlinkbrokers.com

Their stated mission is pretty clear, sell text links from high PR sites. And guess what? This site is #1 for google search term 鈥渂uy text links鈥?br> http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=buy...

This seem to clearly violate Google鈥檚 TOS, yet these guys are not only NOT banned by Google, but they are ranking pretty high on Google search results. I have seen plenty of ads for text links, but I have withheld my temptation of buying them because I believe in doing the right this (Ok, so I am not an Angel, I didn鈥檛 buy them because I don鈥檛 want to get my butt whooped by Google), then I see something like this.

Is this allowed by Google, or am I missing something here?

Yes - it does sound dangerous and like it may violate the TOS. I am not sure why the seeming double sandard or what is going on, but I would not risk wasting money or getting whooped.

I used a free and "legal" method of making my links work, based on a free ebook by Ken Evoy who is the Net guru who runs Site Build It.

Anyone can find high-value, similarly themed sites, and then exchange links to TRULY increase your link popularity, in a way that the engines love.

It takes a bit of homework, but it is legit, and doesn't cost money so check this out instead and see if you could try these strategies. It worked for my site and I am a relative newbie.
