What was "Angels Flying Too Close to the Ground" written about? Lost love or dying?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF WILLIE NELSON'S "ANGELS FLYING TOO CLOSE TO THE GROUND WAS WRITTEN ABOUT?? I LOVE THE SONG, BUT I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS ABOUT LOST LOVE OR DYING....EITHER WAY, IT'S AN AWESOME SONG FROM ONE OF THE BEST SONG WRITTERS THAT HAS EVER LIVED!!!

This is one of my FAVORITE songs ever! It has held deep meaning for me for a long time now,a nd it makes me contemplate over life every time I hear it.

As far as the "official" meaning of the song, I think that Willie would want it to mean many things to many people. That way, we can all love it, in spite of our differences.

For me, it reminds me of a friendship. One person is grounded, the other wild; both are "angels." The wild friend gets a little too wild, and happens upon the grounded friend. The wild friend and grounded friend actually wind up helping EACH OTHER, then go their separate ways.

This is a perfect illustration to many of my life experiences. Sometimes I'm the grounded friend, sometimes I'm the wild friend; but I always learn from others, and hope they, too, learn from me.

I, and everyone I know, think it's about Angels. They are out there and if I didn't believe before, I've definitely been a believer since November of 1985. I was present when my husband passed and before he died he talked to someone who was in the corner of the room, the "person" he was talking to was either 9 feet tall or was standing 3-4 feet off the floor and they were invisible. This part about my deceased husband isn't really part of my answer to your question however thinking about Angels always makes me think about his passing.
