Job Satisfaction?

1. Do you think that only certain indivduals are attracted to these types of jobs ( investment banker, bond-trader, managing director & vice president of marketing), or is it the characteristics of the jobs themselves that are satisfying?

2. What are some characteristics of these jobs that might contribute to greater levels of job satisfaction?

3. If one is satisfied with their job, how might this satisfaction relate to their job performance, citizenship behavior, and turnover?

4. The statement, "there are plenty of people who would love to have this job. They're knocking on the door all the time." How might a person's perceptions of having a job that many others desire contribute to their job satisfaction?

#1 There are only certain individuals that are attracted to those jobs. They enjoy the high pressure positions that deal with a lot of money and constant concentration. Just as there are people that enjoy accounting who do not like the high pressure, enjoy the rules and regulations, and work well with numbers.
#2 People are usually high profile individuals. Enjoy controlling the situation (not have the situation control them). They are usually high energy who deal with people well.
#3 It is important in any position to be satisfied with your job. As a manager, that is one of the most important duties to fit people. With satisfaction, attendance improves, performance improves, and they stay with the particular company.
#4 Some people like the pressure of knowing others want that job. It is a pride thing. But most people do not like that pressure. Sure they do take pride but they do not like to feel the instability of the pressure. Those people that you talk about enjoy the pressure as an additional incentive to excel.
