What is a bond with respect to investments?

it's lending money to government or corporate, low risk. bonds to local government is call municipal bonds, all interest you earn are tax free, both federal and state, but you have to pay a fee and have to buy them thru a broker/agent

federal bonds are tax free too but just state tax free, you can buy them on treasurydirect.gov

corporate bonds aren't tax free but usually has a higher interest

they are like a cd but usually with a longer term
