Should I file an ammended return?

The unexpected W-2 was for only $309. The employer changed payroll companies very early in the year so my husband received two for this job.
This is what I found...."To claim a refund, you must file Form 1040X: Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return within 3 years after the date you filed the original return or within 2 years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.
The IRS can assess additional tax up to 6 years from the date the return was due or filed, whichever is later, if there is substantial error on the return. A substantial error is one that is at least 25% of your adjusted gross income as reported on the return.
There are exceptions to this rule for refunds related to certain items such as net operating losses, general business credit carrybacks, bad debts, and worthless securities.on the H&R block website.
There is no further refund, nor anythign that will need paid back because of this. It is not 25% of his income (duh)
Do I need to worry about this?

I did the math. There is NO difference.

The IRS has mostlikely recieved a copy of this $309 W-2.
After they process your return this year,at some point they will likely issue a notice that you have underreported income.
They will ask you to respond.
Unless you refute the validity of the notice, they will add this extra income into what you previosly stated and refigure your tax on their own.
Not knowing your exact tax situation,it is difficult to say what difference if any, this 309 dollars will make.
Filing 1040x cannot be done electronically only mailed.
If you do decide to file an amended it is more convenient to use a commercially available program that includes the 1040x.
I have had clients in your situation who never heard word one after recieving or forgetiing to include a W-2 or 1099.

yes you should amend and add the additional W2.... without knowing your full situation it could change your return...

example: cousins return was similar, when i amended for him he got an additional 2k (most being EIC) and all taxes he paid in...

that was a good example, again without knowing your tax situation i honestly cannot give you a good answer... there is also a small chance you may owe a little back ...

in the long run amend
1040x
don't forget to also amend your state return as well

amend even if there arnt any changes in your refund.... because there technically are changes.. your income! and we're required to declare ALL income (even illegal) when it comes to the IRS

I wouldnt worry unless the IRS catches it. If they do then you can file an ammended return
