Husband has defaulted on credit cards in his name, what can i do?

husband is ignoring collection agencies calls and now they have looked into us and somehow called my family. He had a failed business that incurred the debt. has not paid on cardss in over 2 yrs. My name is not on the accounts.

The first poster is wrong, unless you live in a community property State like AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA or WI you are not responsible for these debts.

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act the only thing they can contact your family, friends or employer for is to find out where you either live or work, anything else is a violation of this act.

suggest some financial counseling and marriage counseling . money problems wreak marriages.

ur name is not on account however ur assets in a marriage are held libel for the money. lots to learn b4 u get burned.

If you live in Texas you are really in trouble they have some mean laws if you get in financial debt or not paying you can even go to prison for it.

If you were married at the time he incurred the debt, as his spouse, you are equally responsible.

I know it doesn't seem fair, but the law allows responsibility to fall on the spouse in such matters.

At the very least, you should talk to an attorney to find out exactly what your legal options are.
