A friend I want to help, has health issues along with lots of medical debt, needs help beyond what I can give:

how do I find them a person to give advise as to dealing with various colletions agencies regarding hospital bills who are very aggressive in their tactics and do not play by the rules, but are predatory in their business model. instead of praying for the weak, they PREY upon the temporary weak. I would suggest he change his number to a non published then dont give it to anyplace that he is applying for credit or on medical records. They have no proof that it's valid when he lists it on his admittance records. Then get a po box. Then if he gets any mail he doesnt want then write on it "not at this address...return to sender" then the agencies will think that they ahve the wrong place and they will start to look elsewhere to skip trace. that will give him a temporary break if he accidentally gives it out...a long break if he can keep his info quiet.

As for dealing wiht the agencies if he doesnt do that..... if the company he has the debt with is calling, they dont have to follow the laws of the FDCPA....only 3rd party collection agencies do. if they are bugging him from a 3rd party, then have him write a cease and decist letter. by law they must not make any further collection activity. they can sue him or sell his debt and the next collection agency can collect the same way and he'd have to write another letter to them.
