What is a good way to test how a new business would do in my area?

I want to open a hookah cafe (like Starbuck's, except there is flavored tobacco to smoke).

How can I test if this would work without putting much $ into it? I have more than enough money to follow through with the idea, but I don't want to go in debt.

We have a hookah cafe in our town that does very well. Make an honest appraisal of the area with information on your local population; here are some ideas for you:
- local people's willingness to try new things
- go to specialty shops (like paint your own pottery) and talk with the owners
- how many local people are 'native' to hookah
- how many coffee shops you would be in competition with

If you live in a college town like me, you could do a survey on campus that might help you get an idea of the interest level and drum up some free/low cost publicity.

If you would write a business plan first, then marketing plan after, then do the market testing plan. If you do it by yourself is better, you learn more. If you hire somebody to write of you it may be more effective, but you may not learn all it needed.

It maybe the cheapest way to go about business.

Did you read a book about starbucks? it may help some what too.

Being in busines, it is important that you need to have very good instinct and decisive.
