Tips on becoming a better debt collector????

My dad owns a collection agency and i just started working for him as a collector. He wants me to eventually take over his business which i wouldnt mind i love the job but i was just wondering from the good collectors what are some good tips???

Knowing the law is very important, there are regulations.
You always want to be firm but respectful, you will collect more money w/ honey (so to speak). You might also want to get knowledgeable about the legal side of the business; for example, small claims. It is a great way to get a high return on your money. I have some great tips for small claims, if need any help or have any questions feel free to e-mail me.
Good luck on your new position.

~Know the law
~Don't be a jerk (most debt collectors are jerks)
~Don't count on every consumer being an idiot. We as consumers are much more savvy these days, we know our rights by law.
DC don't seem to respect those laws at times and you make it difficult for everyone.

Good luck!

Especially know the laws, I read a lot about debt collectors getting eaten alive by the informed, sometimes the debt collectors end up having to settle lawsuits and paying out.

Know the law-, ethics, confidence, and having one thing in mind "making a win win situation for your client and the party your collecting from. You may want to mentor you father too.
good luck hopefully someday you are going to be in your fathers position.
