Debt Collector Notices?

I have always had excellent credit, I have never failed to pay any bills and have never even made late peyment.
Here is my problem : 2 years ago my son went to hospital, the total of the bills came to $9,000. Each bill comes seperately, hosp, emergency room, physician for this , physician for that, items used, transport from one hosp. to another and so on. When I tried to get assistance I was denied. I also tried to consolidate these bills so that I could make one payment but to no avail and the consolidation companies told me I had to have a much higher dept for them to help.
One place of business is taking (with my permission) $100.00 out of my checking account each month. I can not make payments to each and everyone of these collectors. If I did I would only be able to pay about $20.00 to each every month and they don't wan't to here that. I make less then I did 2 yrs. ago... can you advise me please?

When I spoke with them 2 yrs. ago they told me that 10 or 20 dollar payments were not acceptable. So are they just intimadation tactics?Do I have the upper hand in the amount I choose to pay ?

I am no expert here but if the debt is 2 years old then they have already reported you to the credit bureaus so the damage is done. As far as them not wanting to hear $20 a month tuff cookies. As long as you pay them something each month they can't harass you. If you happen into some doe down the road call them with a offer to settle the entire debt for 50% of what is owed. Chances are they will accept it or make you a counter offer.

Never give them your banking information or allow them to make automatic withdrawals. Also if your son was under 18 at the time and you had no insurance the state should be able to help.

As long as you are sending them money....it could be $5.00 a week they cannot legally do anything to you because you are making payments.

As you are paying a regular amount I think the debt collector cann't take any adverse action against you. so do not worry. happy new year.
