To start a Pool Service Business; because I have no experience, do I have to buy other people's routes?

I've been looking-into getting into the pool Servicing Business. I've noticed that there are several sites that sells routes for thousands of dollars each. I don't want to start right off the bat with a large debt hanging over my head that might take years to repay. I understand that since the sellers are usually willing to train the buyers, this can be a good way for somebody with no experience such as myself to get training and customers. But I'm wondering if there's a way to learn what I need to know without spending thousands of dollars buying somebody else's routes?
Thanx!
