They were excellent in their day, which has passed, when they were able to provide a way for families to buy products from their own store and still get tax breaks. Many large incomes were made before they went through hyper-growth which was many, many years ago. The large incomes have all been made a long time ago.
They have not updated their compensation plan, so you have to recruit a very large number of people who all agree to spend a good deal of money each month, or you will go broke. The trick is in getting people to hear you out.

Most of them are empty nesters now and no longer need or want to fill their homes with products. It's the old "been there done that" thing.
