Is a doctorate in business (DBA) worth taking even if I have a wonderful career in the corporate world? |
I always wanted to bring up my level in terms of academics and would want to have a doctorate degree. I do not want to go to the academe since I am already employed in a job that I love. I just want to do a dissertation on how to create company value depending on investing style and structure of organizations. It is a passion that I have always dreamt of. Is it worth taking part-time or should I quit my day job? Go for it! Pursuing your passion is the only thing you should focus on. A doctorate in the corporate world is becoming increasingly popular and lucrative. This is a specialization which you can niche your career path to. It is like going through a road-less-traveled. An what a wonderful path you will discover, since at the same time, you are pursuing something that you always dreamt on. Though, time management will be essential in you taking a DBA while working. The only way is up! Realisitically--no. Most DBA's are condemned to teaching. A doctorate is more about the philosophies involved and business is much more about doing it. Further, Most business people don't feel comfortable hiring someone who they feel will be judging them instead of them judging you. Depends if you want the DR title, but then you could always get a PHd in something else |
