Has anyone heard of a scam involoving fake foreign house buyers claiming to be business men needing to invest?

I am selling my house on the internet and have received a call from an interested foreign "business man", who claims he needs to invest money quickly. This part I don't particularly have a problem with. However he wants my husband to fly to a foreign country to meet with him before the deal is done, which he says will be done through both solicitors? Sounds strange. Anyone else experience or heard of this? Is it a scam?

The initial call came from a European, and he wants my husband to fly to Italy to meet the investor, who is neither European nor Nigerian (I know a lot of scams involve Nigerian citizens).

you are setting yourself up to be ripped off. Sell your house properly.

I am a real estate investor and foreign investors as well as out of state investors do business with us. HOWEVER, this smells like a scam. Anytime you have to do something like go to them or pay them something so they can send you something it is 99.999% a scam. PERIOD.

Since you are interested in selling your house and it sounds like you want to move it quickly be aware of your emotions.

If you want to move your house quickly, look at your price, get a GOOD agent, put an add in the paper, call those I Buy Houses guys, etc. Any of these will help move the property. Remember that ALL real estate investors must make a profit to exist. There is NOTHING wrong with that. BUT the deal must be win win for both you and the investor.

I have been investing for 6 years and thoroughly enjoy it. If you have any questions or want information on investing in real estate let me know.

God Bless!

Sounds like an express version of the Nigerian Letter Scam. The other thing they may do is to "buy you out" with out a deed transfer, calming they will make the mortgage payment. This way they can rent it out keep the rent money with out making a payment until the bank forecloses - you will not find out until your credit is ruined.

At any rate, out of all the houses we have sold to foreign investors - no one has ever gone there, they have all come here or we have sold it sight unseen (scary stuff.)

But, I would think this is what one can expect by dangling a high dollar item out on the Internet, "steel me if you can."

Do it the old fashion and safe way - get a Realtor.

Total scam

First seller's don't have to travel to a foreign land to sell their property.

Second, they should be coming to you.

If they ever get a nickle out of you good luck getting it back.

These people are professionals and can disappear in the night never to be found again.

Do it the old fashion way.

1. Hire an agent.
2. Put it on the mls.
3. Advertise it all over the web.

Good luck

This is a scam. It will either be:

1. "We will buy your house, but we need you to pay a commission up front to our agent/lawyer/manager"

2."We will pay more than your asking price for your house, but because the house is out of our country, we will expect you to pay our country's foreign purchase property tax. In advance. And here is the person you need to give the check to!"

3. "We can see by the nice home you have for sale that you and your family have lots of money. Therefore, you will remain here as our 'guest' until we receive one million dollars in small denomination, unmarked bills from your wife. Oh, and we need to send her your ear to show we are serious. Would you like to keep your right ear or your left ear?"

Hire a Realtor. Quit wasting your time.
