Can I make personal charges on my business credit card?

My car broke down recently and I need to buy another one, but I can't afford to buy one right now. I'd have to lease or finance, but I have a business credit card that has 0 APR for a year, so if I could charge a car on that card it would save me a lot of trouble. I do need a car for work everyday so it would be used for business purposes; I'm just not sure if I'm allowed to charge one on my business card since it would also be used for personal reasons.

Note: I own a sole proprietorship. I'm not working for someone else. The business card is mine.

If you are the owner and it is your business then it is no problem. Just be sure that when it comes to accounting that you keep your business and personal charges separate.

I noticed you said you wanted to use this to get a car because you have 0 percent for a year. Be aware that no matter what offers are on the card they also have clauses in the agreement that they can change the interest rate for any reason. If you happen to be late on a payment or get close to your limit you may find that your interest rate has gone up to 30%.

Don't do it unless you want to lose your job and possibly go to jail.

Not in a million years unless you are looking to get fired or have written permission.

First off, it is unethical to do so without asking. Now if you ask and your company says yes, then there is nothing wrong with it. Good luck.

Do you want to get fired? get in trouble with the tax man?
Maybe go to jail?
Don't be crazy. Find another solution.
Ask your boss for advice.
Do not jeopardize your future by anything else.

ya might want to discuss,,with your boss---to much junk going on in todays business world-(whereas)folks misusing,,company issued credit cards--don't be no fool

Business credit cards are only supposed to be used for official company business. If you try to buy a car on your business credit card without getting approval from your boss I can chisel it in stone for you that you'll get fired. Best bet for now is to fix the car you have and save up for a new or new-used car. Or, if you're VERY lucky, maybe the company will give you a company car...

if you bought the car on your bus cc it would be considered a company car. and can be taken from you at any time. either way you need permission from the company own. vp. or someone who is a ceo or else that is considered embezzlement and you could face prison time for it.

Um, yeah you better get written permission from your employer first!

Check with your Acct. Dept. before you do, you definitely don't want to get into a financial issue with them and get fired. They might approve if it is for company and then if you leave they keep the car unless you made a contract with them as per the payments and insurance.

No - your company monitors your spending and you will get in trouble immediately!

If the card is in your name, ofcourse you can use it. If it is in another name than you have to get permission. But it isn't illegal to use your bus. credit card. When it comes time for a write off for taxes, you seperate personal from bus. deductions.

Do NOT charge anything on the card without having it approved by the company first; that would constitute theft and would land you in prison. The best thing to do would be to go to your boss and explain the situation; they should be able to arrange something to do your job properly, perhaps renting out a car for you on the days you need, or making a company car purchase that you could use during your business hours. Or maybe they would even approve a car purchase for you.

That depends on your business and how it's set up. If you're the owner of the business, then you can pretty much make whatever rules you want. If you're not the owner, ASK. There are pitfalls, however. If your company goes bankrupt, you're going to lose that car. If you get fired or laid off, that car is going bye bye as well. If you are involved in a car accident with that car, your business is legally liable and people sue when they see that a business is liable as opposed to just a person because they see a deep pocket.

Honestly, you're probably better off just leasing a car on a short term basis for now until you can fix up the old car or buy a new one.

Considering the added note about your business situation, there should not be any reason you can't use the card in any way you see fit. Unless, the card itself has restrictions (which I doubt). Read your terms and conditions. If you don't have the paper copy, you can probably look them up on-line.

Sure you can.

Auto finance is what I do for a living and having gotten to this one late, I was lucky enough to have all of the information.

The correct answer is sure you can.
