Does anyone have their own home business?

If so, what is your success story? What did you do for marketing your business? and how did you finance your business initially? Thanks!

SPAMMERS will be reported!

I advertised in the local newspaper in the weekend issue under "Work Wanted" section initially. I also had some business cards made up. To finance my business all I needed was a computer, software, business cards and some advertising. I used Visa, time payments for the computer and cash. It is a very small home business and I'm married so there is another income - otherwise I would not be self-sustaining. My clientele has grown steadily but slowly over the years with word of mouth and advertising.

found some thing i would do for free.
found some thing with growth potential.
..... that was not a commodities field
..... that gave/got result to clients
...... that developed client loyalty
...... that could be taught to associates to become valuable members of company
..... that could be done to expand the biz.
marketing was guerrilla and sweat equity ground level , person to person old fashion but proven.
financing was cash in hand create sales rolled over to create mores sale creating loyal clients not customers no leasing or credit slave cards.

my story... (cut and paste from my site) Hi, my name is John Goral. I am 26 years old and I am a father of three beautiful children. My entire life, I watched my mother struggle attempting to raise me and my two siblings. I have no idea how she did it alone! Luckily for me, no matter how hard it got for us, she never gave up. Although never giving up traditionally meant dying young. We never saw her because she spent every waking hour busting her hump at two jobs just to put food on the table and a roof over our heads. My mother is a LPN (a nurse) and has worked for the same hospital for over 24 years! The hard work and dedication she devoted at that job has gotten her a whopping $30,000 a year; and she went to college for years just to get in on the ground floor!

Today at 26, her youngest son, with (barely) a high school diploma, has managed to out-earn her 36-year career from a grocery store that I have been employed at for only four years! Now, I don't share this with you because I am looking for a pat on the back or something. I'm sharing this particular story because I knew that I would be in the same shoes someday, (and much sooner than her), whereas all my years of hard work would be for nothing as the new kid waltzes in the door and dwarfs my senior pay right off the bat. Shortly after realizing this, I came to the conclusion that there has to be a better way.

About two months later, I received a phone call from an old ex-girlfriend of mine, (no, my fianc茅 was NOT happy) and she said she knew I was someone who kept their business options open, and she wanted me to talk to someone very important to her who helped her out in this exciting business. I agreed and she introduced me to a man who told me about the business. I was very skeptical, but none the less interested. I agreed to meet him at a coffee shop the next day. When I got there, I was so embarrassed with myself for keeping this appointment that I actually sat down at the table next to him and ate a sandwich just to check him out to see if he was some kind of scam artist. As I said, I'm a skeptical kind of guy. Well, he presented himself very professionally, so I decided to give him a shot and I introduced myself.

When the presentation was over, I was very surprised at the tremendous opportunity he shared with me, but I said I wanted to research the opportunity for myself before jumping into anything. Well, at least I tried to say that, but before I knew it, he had scheduled an appointment with me the next day at my house! All it took for me was a quick run-through of the compensation plan and I knew instantly that this is what was going to change the outcome of my family's future for decades to come.

The month I got involved in the business, a huge storm had devastated the western New York region were I live. As you could imagine, it put a damper on my business. Over 100,000 people were without electricity for days, and almost everyone that I knew had phone lines that were inoperable. Believe it or not, I was still able to produce enough business just through the people that I knew to accomplish a promotion to an executive level in just 25 days! I would have never been to accomplish this goal if it weren't for my mentor coaching me on a daily basis and the entire (widespread) support group at ACN keeping everything simple and easy to follow. The best piece of advice I've heard so far in this business is: "If you can keep yourself coachable, and just commit to following the steps provided, you can achieve positions in this company that haven't even been created yet."

Every day, I thank the Lord that I was home to accept that call, (and that my fianc茅 isn't mad anymore) because without this great opportunity, my family would grow old; watching me dying young, from countless hours of just trying to put food on the table and a roof over their heads. Thank you! For marketing my business, I have a website www.jgoral.acnrep.com and i am looking into Google Adwords for extra traffic. I posted my business cards in my neighborhood places like , libraries, convienient stores, laundromats, etc. and flyers i made as well. Word of mouth is an awesome form of advertisement. think about it; if you refer someone to a movie they will probably go and see it right? and if not, it will always sit in the back of there minds saying "i heard that was a good movie but, i haven't gotten around to seeing it yet."telling friends and family it is there, not to push or sell, but to just check out what you are doing or the site you built, " it would really mean alot." I initially financed my business on a credit card because in my business it is very simple to make bonuses within your first two weeks, so i thought if i even if it took me three times as long to hit a bonus as they were saying it was gunna take, i will still get paid before my bill gets in. Just for the record, i made back my initial investment plus a couple hundred dollars extra in only 25 days! not saying everyone gets that but, the potential is there to that and much more in half the time (i'm a slacker)
