What is the value of me taking up a doctorate in business if I intend on working in a corporation forever? |
I am working in corporate finance in an investment firm and am very satisfied with my job. However, I always dreamt of getting a doctorate. People are telling me it is useless in a corporate world, but I just do not want to believe them. Can anybody help me in generating reasons or motivations for me taking a doctoral degree in business/finance? Thanks! Ten points for the best answer! I have noticed that there is a recent spike in demand for quants by investment banks and hedge and private equity firms. A doctorate in the finance discipline would definitely boost your chances of enhancing your qualifications. In any case, it would not have any downside at all except for your time and effort. I'd agree that PHD in the corporate world is useless. U've been there for more than 20 years!! Some bosses might think of you as a challenger, others might welcome you if they have one! So, depending on where you work, it might help you or it might work against you. I've met many PHD holder in the lower middle management. |
