Economics vs. business?

I am interested to know what kind of skills are taught in business major. I have an idea what is learned in economics finances, but I don't have an idea about business finances (for example). I always knew that I want to work close to money, but I am still not sure between which majors to chose. I hope you understand me, I saw some similiar questions here on Answers, but those questions haven't answered to mine...

Business majors are typically taught in seven areas: Entreprenurialism, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Economics, Retail, and Accounting.

The idea of a "business major" is to be able to place you in any business, and your skill set be valuable. You will learn all seven skill sets, but concentrate on that area you prefer to work in.

Entreprenurailsim is teaching you how to raise money, build a business plan, and generally manage the business.

A Finance concentration teaches you how to raise funds--and the math behind buying, leasing, renting, and similiar options. You'll learn about the stock market, bond market, and performing complex financial evaluations. You will understand the time value of money in all decisions. You'll probably earn an Accounting Minor on your way to the Business Major.

In a Marketing concentration you'll learn how to develop a brand image, advertising, displays, consumer thinking, and how to differentiate your products.

In Operations you'll learn the skills for hands-on running of the business: manufacturing, mininig, purchasing, inventory control, economic order quantities, the math behind decision making, etc.

In Economics you'll learn the "why's" behind the decision making. The two major areas will be micro-economics (understanding how the company operates) and macro-economics (understanding how the world operates.)

In Retail (some schools don't offer this specialty) you'll understand floor layouts, buying behaviors, staffing issues, inventory levels, customer buying behaviors, queue management, etc.

And in Accounting, you'll learn how to track the inflows and outflows of funds, and report the same to upper management. A major emphasis will be on auditing the cash flow (making sure no one is taking what they shouldn't!)

A "business management" degree exposes you to all these categories, and as you matriculate through the program, you begin to determine where your interests lie. Usually between your second and third years you decide which specialty you want to concentrate on, and then you take more classes within that specialty. But you are exposed to all facets of the business world.
