Has anybody done any advertising for flooring companies? What advertising medium was effective?

I work with HUD and VA doing renovations but I would liek to do private flooring work. I have excellent distributor contacts, a starter capital base, and experienced installers but I am bad at marketing. I was considering mail flyers. Unfortunately I think that TV and radio will take a bit too long on the investment return to be an option right now so any other ideas or suggestions.

Thanks for response. I am after both types of work really. I do well with the government work but would like to expand. But from what you say direct mailings are probably best for both worlds.

I would look into local home shows and county fairs to showcase your work, because usually they're pretty cheap and people will get a chance to meet you face-to-face to make sure you're a nice person and they'd want you in their home, you know?

I'd also call the local paper and ask about a business builder rate, TOMA (special program that stands for Top Of Mind Awareness - many papers have them) or some other program that's small and allows you to get some name recognition out there.

If you are after new home work as opposed to replacement work, the marketing approach will differ. If you want to do new homes, you market to the builder trade. If you are after replacement work, you go directly to the homeowner. TV and radio are not right for you at this point. You need to be established first. I suggest direct mail once you know who your target is.
