In a capitalist society, the economy will keep on expanding and profits will subsequently keep on growing. Consequently, both stock prices and stock dividends will increase as well.

China. China and other under developed countries coming of age in the industrial world along with the out sourcing of jobs to those countries. Uncle Sam wants you no longer refers only to the US citizen but encompasses anyone who wants to earn a US dollar or sell to a US company. The high demand for crude oil isn't centralized to the US either and gasoline/petroleum isn't the only thing produced from crude. Other countries seek out these resources as well so they too can compete in the world economic market.There are deeper fundamentals at work also but that is as good a start as any. As long as people move foreword and have the same wants and needs (plasma TVs, computers, cars, education, food & drink) as we hard working Americans than it will continue.
