Serious Personal Finance Help needed.... help me in this mess please!!?

In Dec. 03, I had a ER visit. I thought the parents health insurance took care of it. Late found out it didn't. It went to collections. I was making payments, and missed some, so it went to court- the hospital sued me. This was 2 months ago. I haven't heard anything from the laywer, until last night when reviewing my bank statement online. He went in and cleaned out my checking and savings. No warning.

I have other debts I am working on paying down. This hospital debt is about 1400.00 - Can I bargain with this lawyer to get it to a monthly payment?

With this debt, added to the others, I have about 3-4000 in debt. What should I do? As soon as I get my paycheck, the money is out the door!! It's overwhelming.

Might using the phrase "declaring bankrupcty" to this lawyer help at all? I have NO assets, none whatsoever, so he'd lose the money. Is this a wise thing to at least try and bring up?

Please help- I'm trying to get out of debt, but they keep piling it on me..... SOS!!!

Go to daveramsey.com and read about his plan. You can call him on his radio show with this specific problem and he will guide you without charge. How did the lawyer get the information to empty your account? This lawyer might be in line to lose his license if he has invaded your monies illegally. Ask Dave, he will know...

In all seriousness .. post the question to US.. I suspect you are in US and this is showing on UK board. Health fees are (for now at least) covered by NHS basic benefit.

However what I would say is, if you declare every intention to repay (which is what you appear to have done) then it is against basic human rights to not acknowledge that and you should insist they accept the payments you have made to date as intentions to pay. This would stand up in UK court, hope it stands up in yours.

Best of luck

Although the debt you speak of may seem overwhelming to you, in absolute terms it is not a huge amount of money. You'll earn many times over that amount over your lifetime. Talk to all your debtors and see if you can work some kind of payment plan. Chances are they will work with you. You don't discuss how much you make or what your general expenses are, but you need to do whatever you can to increase your income and reduce your expenses. If you can do this, your debtors are more likely to work with you. And if you are ever going to be late with any payment, talk with your debtors and tell them why. Don't make them come after you. They'll be much more friendly.
