How can I eliminate a charge off on my credit report?

In 2005, I had 1998 Taurus which I financed through in-house at the dealership. Unfortunately, the vehicle had began giving me problems after 6 months. I had requested for them to come and get the vehicle. A few days later, I recieved a notice that it would be counted as a Repo until deemed otherwise. So now, I have this $8,000 charge off on my account. They are really rude when I call & wont give me any info, so its just been there every since. What can I do to obtain info on this account so that I may pay my way out of this debt?

Auto finance is what I do for a living and I agree with the first poster.

The fact that it's a buy here pay here lot may indicate that your account has not been turned over to a collection company.

Send them a certified letter return receipt requested stating that you want to pay this debt. Believe me they will respond.

If you can get them to agree in writing to remove the repossession from your credit report for payment in full, then pay them by money order or certified check.

They may or may not remove the Repossession, but if you offer payment in full it will give them some incentive at least.

When is the last time you called them stating you wanted to start payingoff the debt?

I would think after almost 2 years it is with a collection agency by now anyway.

Write a return receipt requested letter and ask them about the account.

The only way to eliminate the charge off being reported to the 3 major bureaus is to negotiate with creditor to remove the "CORRECTLY REPORTED" information for a pay off of the debt. They may, they probably will not remove the indicator on your credit reports. Oh and get any agreement in writing BEFORE sending or paying a single dime.
