Why wont they accept me????

I'm 18 Years old, i am trying to get a credit card just so i can get a little bit of a credit history, but no one will except me once they get to the credit check stage. Which dont make sense as i have never liked credit let alone had it. I know they may feel i could end up getting myself in debt at my age but thats not the case. I pay at least 拢300 a month to pay my boyfriends loan off with the company i was trying to get a credit card with. But my B/f said they will only see it as him paying it off, so im helping him with his and i cant even get excepted for a credit card i dont understand why..... I work within Finance so i do understand money and studying to be an accountant. Can someone explain why no one will except me????

I have even tried getting a mobile phone contract but they rejected me, which doesn't make sense. Shouldn't i even get something for paying my boyfriends debts off, with my hard earned money.

Each month 拢300 of my money goes towards his loan and then i give him 拢350 to pay more than half of the bills as well as topping up half the electric. and i pay for college and my exams. but i cant even get a credit card, please can someone let me know why this is ?????????????

start putting somethings into your name or joint name ie: power, gas tv licence and get your name and address on the electoral role, but be careful in giving money to other people, even if it is your boyfriend, don't get burnt now.

go to the experian web site and get your credit report, they do a 30 day trial at the moment so might not cost you anything

Yer fella is right about the bank seeing it as him paying it of, if its in his name, from his account.

Try Capital One. Theyre there to help people build up their credit score.

Keep in mind it depends on your income etc

You're not getting any credit for paying your bills on time because you didn't set it up so you'd get credit for it.

If everything is in your boyfriend's name, he gets credit for every payment made, regardless of the source of the money. But he also accepts the risk for unpaid bills.

You can ask to add your name to the utility accounts, and that will help build your credit rating. I don't know how it works in the UK, but in the US you can get secured credit cards to help build your credit rating. You deposit a sum with a credit card issuing bank and they give you a line of credit equal to x times the amount of your deposit, minimizing their risk and giving you the chance to build good credit.

it may be that your credit score is too low and if you have to put your outgoings down then they probably think you paying 300 permonth is too much see if you can get a catalogue account once you have paid that for a month or 2 there will be good credit showing on your account also ask your bank for a cheque book if this fails then get copies of your credit history from all the companies such as experian you can pay a couple of quid and see if there is anything bad on there maybe you havent lived at your address long enough. However its probably best not to go down the creditcard or loans route they are nothing but trouble if you cant afford to pay cash you cant afford to buy it!

google experian & have a look at your credit history just to make sure there has not been any errors made, you never know but somebody may be using your name to get their credit

the bills your paying are in your boyfriends name?? if thats the case you won't get ANY credit for paying. at the age of 18 you won't have had the oppertunity to build up any credit. i was able to get a credit card at 18 but it had only a $250 limit and had EXTERMLY high interst rate...which is what you'll have to go through.

people don't care who's money pays what it's whose name is on the bills.

Sorry this has happened to you, cos it's the same with me,It could be the address you live in, if you have been in the house less than 3 years, it's the previous occupants of the address. We bought our house, and it's the last occupants, that is at fault.

the home you are in might be blacklisted or other members of your family might have bad credit history which can also effect you credit rating

Check your credit rating with Experion or similar. It's possible that they've made a mistake, and you're blacklisted.

By the way it's "accepted". Also, if you work "within finance", how come you need to ask this?

I would check out the links on this website they may be able to get you a credit card. By applying for credit cards can also bring down your credit rating or score.

Try to get a loan first, you are 18 years of age and they will not give you a credit card unless you have good credit history, if you have none then you won't get, sometimes some company's want that you have been at your past job for more than a certain amount of months or years. but not too sure on that. I tried with a checking account and after that i got a loan from a security loan place and my sister co signed for you, that's the best way to start a good credit also having the checking account and not going overdraft on it or anything. As for the mobile phone, either because of no credit, or you have credit but it's bad and you have to pay a big amount of cash for deposit to get the phones. You paying your boyfriends debits off your only making him shine, making it to where he is paying it off and getting the good credit. Unless you are part of his credit card and etc. you know both names on the card. if not you don't get credit for it all.

You probably have a lack of credit, common for those as young as you. I do not know Great Britain's credit policies, but in the US if you pay your BF bills and they are not in your name, it only applies towards his credit.

You can do a couple of things to solve this. Get your name on your BF's bills you are paying and then it will start affecting your credit as well. In addition, it is often easier to get a credit card with your own bank than other lenders, especially credit unions. Also, get a copy of your own credit report the next time you are rejected, you may be able to figure out why with this.

Hi, when you apply for a credit card the supplying company will perform a credit search with such agencies as Experian etc... who will look at your previous credit history and score accordingly - if you have no credit history then they are unable to assess your credit risk thus returning a bad score. The best way round this is to apply for a credit card/loan from your current account provider as they have financial history from your current account transactions which will help to provide a credit score for you. I know its daft but as a lender they need to see how you act financially, if there is no history then they cannot make an informed decision. Try speaking to your current bank, they should be able to help. Alternatively in the meantime there are other card providers that deal with people who have been refused, such as Capital One, apply and get one of their cards but dont use it, or if you do pay off the balance straightaway as the interest rates are usually high on these cards, this will then start to gain you credit history in the future when applying for a decent card.

Also if your address is blacklisted, you can apply to Experian for disassociation against anyone blacklisted at that address, may help.

Hope this helps, I could write loads more on the subject but thought I would keep it short and sweet :)

You will be 'credit scored'. This is a points system which considers, age, income, commitments, address, financial assets, history etc. Anything that risk rates you. Companies specialise in collecting this info about people. Prince Philip would fail. Not a home owner, no job etc
Companies called credit reference agencies supply this info about us all to banks etc. If the potential lender used one and turned you down they must tell you. The Citizens Advice Bureau will tell you how to get a copy of your record for a small fee, which you are entitled to do and you can correct any wrong info. It can even be that a bad risk lived at your address before you.

Sounds like something has happened in the past, could be something registered against you at your now address or a previous address if within 6 years, what i would suggest is you have a credit check run on yourself through experian or a similar company, that will list anything which is on your history as bad credit, could be a default in payment or something which was in your name, or in some cases against the address, when you apply for credit of any kind a credit check is done using this or a similar company. As for what you pay towards your boyfriends debts he is right in saying as far as the loan company is concerned he is paying them as they are not in your name. I would suggest running the credit check and if you find anything you can dispute it with the company, and in some cases get them removed. Hope this helps.

If you have a bank acc.
Go to your bank and tell them you want a debit card.
The money comes direcitly out of your bank.
But you need to have that much in the bank, when you use the card.
