Credit issue...am I wasting my time paying off charge off and other black marks on my credit report?

I divorced my husband about 6 years ago. He had issues which caused us to never get ahead and eventually we filed bankruptcy in 98. I was tried to keep that from happening by going to a those debt consolidation co. and it was working until one of our cars was stolen. They never recovered it.

Months earlier I tried to convince him not to drop the full cov. he did anyway. We were forced after waiting 3 mos. for the cops to find our car we financed another vehicle.

We were barely making it before & needed another car for work.

I tried it for about 6 mos and then gave up and boy did I feel defeated and filed bankruptcy with him.

It is just my daughter & I & I am very happy but would like to buy a home for her one day in the near future among other things.

Bankruptcy stays on cr rpt for 10 yrs and a friend told me even though I pay them it does not help me, just to wait to wait till if falls off and start new?

Is she right, am I wasting $ on old debt?

No no, I am not talking about paying for the items that were on the bankrupcty. I am talking about credit card my ex got with both our names after the bankruptcy that I am not stuck paying if I want to clear my name. Also we had 2 financed vehicles. I still have mine and have paid on time since the beginning of the loan, mine is almost paid off. But my wonderful ex let his truck (which was in both our names) get repossed. Those are things I am referring to.

It would be great if someone in the legal and or credit field who specializes in these things happen to stumble across my question. I would really appreciate any advice.

Small steps like paying your bills on time and using only part of the credit available to you. Also use your credit cards for making small payments regularly, so that it is reflected in your credit record. More tips available at http://www.acreditlibrary.com/buildcredi...

If you have filed bankruptcy on these accounts and it has been discharged, you are wasting your money on these old accounts.
What I recommend is to get something like a pre-paid credit card and slowly start rebuilding your credit.
That way although a bankruptcy will show on your credit report, they will also start seeing you accumulating a credit history and making timely payments.

You are wasting dollars on old debt. You will have to file unless you wish to pay all the crap fees and monthly excess charges the cc companies imposed. Dept consolidators still cost alot......

Your wasting your time, but you are obligated to pay on these debts. After all they did extend you credit. I am in the same situation, but I am repaying on these past debts to clear my own conscious.
