How do i sort out my credit rating?

been on experian, all i got was the print out of my credit history....all my old debt is now clear, but still cant get credit?? or finance, how do i get rid of bad credit?? is there a body/firm that deals with this?

What exactly do you mean your old debt is now clear?

If its been past 6 years since the debt was logged on your credit file, it should have been removed automatically. If it hasn't you should write to the credit agency and ask them to remove it.

If you mean you have paid back the debt, unfortunately it will still affect you. Even if the balance of the debt is 0, the fact that you got the debt in the first place will still go against you, your score doesn't automatically recover just because its paid.

In this case, time as they say is the best healer!

Wait at least 1 year after the date of the last debt on your file, as before a year you have no chance of getting credit. After a year, your best bet is to apply for a bad debt credit card such as capital one or aqua. Use it a bit each month, and pay most of the balance back, you need to leave a little bit to earn interest, as paying off the full balance each month can actually work against you. Do this for 6 months or more, and it will increase your credit rating, and show you are paying on time.

You can then start applying for normal cards with a lower interest rate.

If you get turned down, never apply to more than 2 - 3 cards in a 3 - 6 month period, otherwise you`ll look desperate and considered a bad risk. Wait a while and then try again.

Unfortunately, theres no quick way to restore your credit file, but at least nowadays it doesn't take the 6 years it used to. A lot of credit providers (such as banks) don't look beyond the last 2 - 3 years on your credit file.

Keep at it, and you`ll get there eventually. I know how it feels as I`ve been there myself, and its frustrating having to wait, but its the only thing you can do, and you will get credit again in time!

Please be aware that a lot of companies that claim to clean your credit file are a con, or involve you effectively perjuring yourself, which is a criminal offence. There is nothing these companies can do that you can't do yourself. Save your money, and do what i`ve said above, read up on how your credit file works on the net, and things will get better!

if you have paid for the 拢2.00 credit report then you can then speak to them on the phone to amend anything and they can give you advice on what to do.
have a try its worth it, you are better speaking to them on the phone than on the website.

wait a while like 3 to 6 months a then try to get a credit card.. and get one that has a low limit.. Try ochardbank..

there is two credit places one is experian the other i can't remember at mo , i am shall some one on here will know , they could both hold something on you , you need to clear both. also have you just moved in ?? as new address can hold old people's dept. on them IE. bad address or bad area. if you have alot of people in dept. in your road the whole area is listed as big watch out when you get credit. good luck out there. also have you a credit card/ visa ? to get credit you need credit

What sort of credit are you after? A loan or credit card is different to buying a computer or furniture on tick. A trick is to get a credit card from a company who will take on anyone like Monument or Capital One. Use the card (sensibly) and pay it almost all off (leave a couple of quid) each month. The reason for leaving money on it is to show you can handle debt properly. After 3-6 months of this apply for a loan or more sensible credit card. Request to transfer the first card's debt onto the new debt and you will have far more chance of being accepted.

Good luck and manage your money well.

When your ordered your credit report from experian you have to pay for the score. If your old debt is now clear you need to get re-established try getting a card that you a small fee for pay for like Orchard Bank or become an authorized user on someone elses card. You will get their payment history.

If all your old debt has been cleared, then it should show on your credit reference file. If it does not, supply proof to Experian that you have cleared the debts, and they will adjust your files accordingly. Other factors can also be stopping your ability to get credit. Have you defaulted on any payments (catalogues/mortgage etc), I take it you've applied to a few companies, they show up as searches on your credit files, and this can affect your credit worthiness, (loads of searches could show you are pretty desperate to get a loan) The length of time you have been with an employer/whether you move home alot. These can also affect your credit score. You could also try Equifax, they are another credit history agency. Other than that you could ask the loan companies you have applied to as to why you did not meet their loan requirements criteria.

try the citizens advice bureau. sometimes they can point u in right direction. bad debt records will stay on record for 6 years though.
