Who should I talk to about my Finances??????

I am trying to get my finances in order, and I have started paying off some debt, including a few payday loans, and getting my school loans under control. However, now that I have a budget for myself, I need help taking my finances to that next level. I want to be able to save and invest, but I first need to get my credit score up. I make pretty good money (82K/yr), and I want to prepare to buy a house. Do you think I should go to a financial advisor or a credit counseling place, or any other suggestions???

I don't think you need a counselor. First, pay off your debts - that is fundamental. Then, if you don't already have some, open a couple of credit cards, use them sparingly and pay off the full balance each month. That will take care of your credit score. While you're doing that, read "Personal Finance for Dummies" and "Investing For Dummies" - seriously, they are great books.

Sometimes the bank offers financial counseling?

I really don't think anyone needs a financial advisor in my opinion... unless you have so much money you cant keep track of it. (I'm talking millions and millions of dollars.)

I found that common sense goes a really long way with credit and finances.

I can break it down simply... almost too simple :)

When you buy something... ask yourself this question.
Will this investment "eat me" or "feed me"?

Liabilites eat you alive, assets feed you for the rest of your life. Don't try to over complicate this question as so many do.

I know a few financial and credit advisors. These folks usually dont event own their own home and are usually in a worst position than the people they help. It's a waste of money that you could have used to buy assets.

If you are trying to prepare to buy a house then it would be wise not to make any large purchases 6months to 1 year prior. You should have at LEAST 10% of the purchase price of the home although the market is going back to the days of 20%. It doesnt mean you will use the money to buy the home. They just want to know you have it.

If you really want to take your finances to the next level become a small business owner. (CHA-CHING!)
This will allow you to deduct your business expenses from your income! How SWEET is that!?!

Hope this helped!

Good LUCK!
