Forget going to a bank and FORGET about changing your name and running away from your debts. You will never prosper that way.

Go to Consumer Credit Counseling and they will help you organize your finances. They are not a lending agency and won't consolidate your loans but they will contact those you owe money to and advocate on your behalf, to set up a payment schedule. You pay them and they disperse the money to your creditors.

Facing your debt head on is the only way. Good luck to you.

Move and change your name. It will be much easier.

call a local household bank.. or HSBC the rate will be SUPER HIGH>> but they will work with you.

I personally don't trust the so called "get out of debt" companies. There could be hidden fees and charges compiled in with your payment plan. My recommendation would be to speak directly to the billers that you owe money to. Most would rather be flexible with your payments than have you default entirely. If that fails, consider consolidating your debt by paying it off through a home equity loan or other type of lender provided loan. Your interest rate my be higher than average but you'll be able to extend the life of the debt out further and only you can judge if that is a feasible payment.

There is a place - debt relief, that will cut your bills in half and lower your payments. It will take years to rebuild your credit though. You may qualify for a government grant. Sometimes they loan money. With low payments that last for years. Beware of scams. A lot of places say pay some save some. This is a good idea. I can't afford it. However maybe you can. Just be glad you are able to work. I'm not. I'm on a fixed income. With the same problem. If you happen to find a legitimate grant office please let me know. I'm still looking.

Stop! First, don't panic and take any action (especially with a finance company) until you've educated yourself on the good and bad actions to take.

One of the best sites I've found for sound advice is MSN Money (sorry, Yahoo!). First, use their Debt Consolitation Calculator at http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/cal... to give you an idea of what you yourself can do by setting aside extra monies to pay down your current debts.

See "Make a Deal with Debt Collectors" for some good steps to take: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Sav... and begin to read the related articles. Also, to give you hope that it can be done, see "Huge debts paid off fast" at http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Sav...

Then, if you do choose to have an outside company help you consolidate your current debt, be sure they are the legitimate nonprofits that are authorized to do so. There are way too many scams going around right now, whereby consumers are left in worse shape than before. Read "Credit Repair" from Georgia's Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs: http://consumer.georgia.gov/00/article/0... They provide some great advice, too.

Also, a great thing to have is a buddy group for encouragement and accountability. There is a Budget101 Yahoo! Group which has a lot of folks in your similar situation. They've provided me with a lot of great ideas and friendly support.
