I have purchased a house with my boyfriend of 10 years but he has an outstanding debt of 拢8,000.?

This debt is over 10 years old can they still claim it? They are 1st credit finance Ltd and keep sending horrible letters they are now taking him to county court and something about a judgement?? we have had no contact with them so far. Any advise?? I'm hoping to ignore them and they will go away.

1st Credit (Finance) Limited make their money by buying up old debts and then making peoples life a misery trying to enforce payment. They are most unlikely to take your boyfriend to Court since they would be hard pressed to prove to the judge that the debt exists.

Don't ignore them because they won't go away. Your boyfriend should write to their registered office (the address should be on their letters) saying he has no knowledge of the debt and asking for proof. That will probably get rid of them.

If this is a real debt, and they have proof, try offering them 拢1,000 in full and final settlement. They probably only paid 拢800 for it and they may settle for a quick profit.

If it is not a real debt, your boyfriend should let them take him to Court. He can then make a counterclaim for the distress they have caused. Judges don't like heavy handed debt collectors.

dont ignore them cause they wont go away....check out citizens advice to see what your options are or some other debt advice centre.

They probaly wont go away if you ignore them. No offense but why did you buy a house, surely you should of got the deat cleared and put the house on hold for a few years.

Sorry but ignoring them wont make them go away, unfortunately your boyfriend is going to end up with a CCJ and this will effect his credit rating which in turn will effect your mortgage if you ever remortgage your property. You should try and find a way to pay off this debt, even if it is a small amount each month.

why did you not add 8 grand onto the mortgage and clear it..now he has an asset they can send bayliffs in to get stuff to that amount!

lol - can they still claim it? Ofcourse they can!

Would you forget about it if you lent someone 拢8000?! Nope.

They are not going to go away.

You need to contact them and start arranging payments.

The reason they are taking you to court is because you are not contacting them, i'm sure they would be happy to work something out away from the courtroom.

Bottom line is - you can't get out of paying it so face up to it.

Citizens Advice pretty quick.

you'll be paying for the rest of your life, play your get out of jail free card whilst you can,
o'h dear you have already commited suicide sorry.

Yes they can still demand payment. Non-payment can ruin his and your credit rating (you live at the same address and possibly have a joint mortgage) Don't ignore them speak to them and get yourselves of to the CAB pronto

dont ignore them. face the situation

there are many banks and institutions that will help you MANAGE your debt and pay it back in smaller installments.

he (and you if you both buy the house together) could be in trouble and your credit record could be ruined for years. dont let that happen.

call National Debtline on 0808 808 4000

see this link it has some good advise for people in debt

remember YOU (or your bf) spent that money, so it cant just go away it has to be paid back

I hope he is not on the deeds, if he is then there is collateral they can call on....

They won't go away, but they be happy that you are buying a house, because when you do they can sell your house and get there 拢8,00 back.
