Paying of Credit Card Debt?

I am 24 years old and I have quite a bit of credit card debt from getting married last year and being out of work for a while. I would say it's about $17,000 worth. My husband I both work, but I am only working to pay debt. I feel like I never pay any of it down due to finance charges. I am not at a point where I can't pay, but I can only manage minimum payments. Any suggestions? Please be specific as I want to start taking actions quickly. :)

One suggestion would be to call your creditors and try to get your interest rates lowered. If you have a good payment history with them, they should be willing to help you out. Explain the situation and remind them that you are a good customer. If that doesn't work you may be able to shop around for a credit card with a low interest rate and transfer your balance over. You can also try to get auto loans refinanced with other lenders at a lower interest rate. Usually creditors are willing to work with you because they want their money.

You may have to get a 2nd job. Or, cut back everywhere else you can and put that extra money towards the credit card debt. You can also sell some assets and put that money towards the debt too.

go to a consumer credit counseling office. They will not charge you for their services. They can negotiate a payment plan with the credit card company and probably get the interest reduced.

good luck to you.

SIR WILLIAM SMITH

debit consolidation. Go see a credit councillor they have all the tricks on how to help. I used to work for a credit card company and more people than you think have problems with debit. We live in a plastic world. you'll not get out of it on your own if you're only making minimum payments now. they can negotiate with creditors and make them stop calling if you are able to work with them. check your phone book for a local one. They also don't push bankruptcy on you, they are encouraged by the government to "save" so many people a year.... hope this helps.

and whatever you do try to avoid signing another loan... it will dig you deeper...

You may want to try calling the creditor to see if you intrest reate can be lowered. Definately try paying more than the minimum each month, $5.00 more makes a difference. Also if you have that insurance that says they will pay the minimum balance if you loose your job and cannot pay the bill, you may want to get rid of that. You pay a certain amount on that each month on every hundred dollars you owe which is probably more than your minimum due.

Good Luck!

Is the credit card debt from more than one card? What are the interest rates on the cards? Did you sign up for any credit insurance with these cards? More info needed. Also, never charge on cards that have a balance. You will start paying interest immediately on every purchase.

I would suggest you to join a debt settlement company who will consolidate all your payments into one single monthly payment which you have to make, according to how many months you are joining their debt settlement program.

They will negotiate with your creditors on your behalf and bring down your principal debt by around 30% to 70% depending on your credit companies. By making affordable monthly payments you can be out of debt within 3-36 months. There are no hidden costs and upfront fees associated with the monthly payment option.

Once you join the program, they will start working on your debt amount in 24 to 48 hours.

Check out this debt settlement company who has helped me out with the unsecured credit card debt situation.
