Best ways to get out of debt? |
I'm about 20,000 dollars in debt.. Well between me and my finance. What are some good ways to get out of debt? or better our credit scores? Write letters to the credit agencies and demand that they check all the negative reports on your statements. By law, they have 30 days to verify or the reports get dropped. That can help. Other than that, pay twice the minimum on your revolving credit, always on time, and pay off the highest interest rates first. Only make necessary purchases. make a budget, write down everything you spend money on daily. Pay off highest interest rate card first, try to find cards that have low rates or a fixed rate for the life of the debt, I know AMEX and CHASE both offer this. Possibly look at consolidation, and best thing would be to stop charging. Stop buying and purchasing, cut up most of your credit cards except for one with a small balance to keep for emergencies or car rentals. Grind up your credit cards, stop spending money for things you cannot afford and come up with a payment plan where you pay a portion of the $20,000 each and every month. Only spend the bare minimum you need to survive. Now the hard part. DISCIPLINE. You have to stop wasting money, if it makes you feel cheap or suffer, too bad. There are no easy ways to get out of the hole you dug, but it can be done with short-term sacrifice and hard work. Also, get a hold of your credit reports from the three major agencies and keep writing to them to remove any negative information whether it is right or wrong. A lot of times they will take it off if you continue to pester them. That alone will gradually improve your FICO numbers. check out www.daveramsey.com This site might help.
