If a relative dies no will or estate, no finances to talk about but has a debt on their credit card, who pays? |
Would the credit card company write the debt off As long as no one else is on the account, slam the door shut on the debt. Do not encourage the debt collectors, just tell them the person is dead, don't call us. The credit card companies make far too much in interest from us all, I have NO SYMPATHY for them. If the person has no assets, then it would be written off. if that person put an emergency contact number or if the person has a spouse or child it goes to them. thats how greedy they are of getting money that they simply say "eh they are gone but hey lets get the husband or child to pay. we cant afford to write it off" It depends, they will try to get someone in the family to sign on for the debt by being sneaky by lying to the family members that someone has to pay but since the person that incurs the debt is now dead they can't force anyone to pay off that debt. If there is no coholder or cosigner on the account, the debt is written off. Relatives of the deceased are not personally liable simply because they are relatives. i can not see anyone dieing who did not have a little be of assets but if that is true you can get blood from a dead person so it becomes a write off!!! |
