Investment: Does anyone have experiences they can share with me? |
What I'm looking for is information from your personal experience (so I can learn from it) using: Etrade, Scottrade, Ameritrade, and BuyandHold (dot com), investment websites. You may wish to join: optionsxpress.com, has virtual trading under tool box tab where you can fake trade. I would highly recommend you do that until you pull the trigger with your real money. When you are ready, open an account with Tradeking.com #1 $4.95 commissions....with $5K and too many trades the commissions, slippage, capital gains tax will chew it up pretty quick. You can also put it in a Roth IRA for you and your wife to let the earnings grow tax free, which I would do if I were you, put $1000 each in good mutual funds FLATX, FSEAX, FHKCX, FICDX (as long as the US$ is low these should continue to be outstanding, but like tech was in late '90s and energy/reits were early 2000's when the trends change you should change with them) and $500 each in AAPL and VMW on a dip, and any other funds you start to put aside for investment hold back to see which are the best performers and add to them and start learning about trading call options once you've learned enough about them and successfully executed enough virtual trades where you are making more good trades then bad then use a small % for that. I like to watch MadMoney and FastMoney to stay abreast of the market and if sometimes they talk up a guarantee they are usually right - they don't come along that often, but when they do that's when you jump. It's a 2hr/weeknight investment, but if you are serious it's well worth it. I also subscribe to Investors Business Daily, DorseyWright, etc...but if I were you I would stick to yahoo finance (and answers), stockcharts.com and morningstar.com, all of which are free and provide enough information for the small investor to excel. yes, I have some information for you, If you are serious about investing, do not deal with the unpredictable stock market. I have lost with them!! The stock market is VOLATILE!! The fastest, safetest, highest appreciation is long-term real estate appreciation!!
