How can I earn some money as a teenager?

I live in East Bay, CA and I am a teenager... I need some way to earn some money. My mother is not OK with me getting a job during school, and I really cannot think of other ways to make money. I known I could babysitt but I'm not really sure how I can get people to know who I am, plus my parents might not be OK with me working at strangers houses. I don't want any internet scams such as survey taking or other stuff. Im personally interested in computers and skateboarding. I thought of organizing parties and charging admision but I don't have a place to make the party at. Any help will be appreciated

There are no lawns to mow, everyone pretty much takes care of their own. And my city has a lot of carwashes that are reasonably priced....

Mowing lawns is always a good one. If the lawns are of varying sizes, you can charge a sliding scale, depending on the square footage of the field you are cutting. Of course, you need a mower for that.

You could try randomly knocking on peoples doors and offering to mow their lawn. Might be hard if you dont have a mower though.

Or you could just get a job that only give a few short shifts. I work at Safeway (you might not have Safeway down there, compare it to Albersons or whatever grocery store you do have) and im still in high school. Just ask for like 2 four hour shifta a week.

btw, what is your qualification? so that I can suggest you some things

washing cars, selling water ice,

As a teenager I went out to my neighbors and ask them if they wanted their lawn mowed.I had my dads mower and I made a couple of dollars during the summer and weekends.maybe you could do this.

Maybe gather some things yo really don't need or use around the house, and have a garage sale.asked friends and family to give you anything they don't want or need and sell them, that's a easier way to make a little extra money.

Hope this helps.

I don't know your age, but computers and skateboarding sound like cool topics. First, can you come up with something that combines the 2 interests?--if you can, then you could make a KILLING with today's teenagers.
Do you have a skate-park in your city?--could you get a job sweeping it clean on weekends?

I wrote this for someone else, whose 14 year old wanted ideas, but I'll give it to you just to get you thinking:

You could start a song-dedication service. Perhaps he could work with a local radio station to get them to devote a half hour twice a week after school to play the song dedications he gets from friends at school. PLUS, if he got certain teen-friendly businesses to play radio advertisements during that half hour, the radio station would LOVE him for bringing in more advertising.

If he has the full support of his parents, he could do the e-bay or amazon thing. I sold a lot of my old college textbooks that way. It requires his parents (who are over 18 or 21 or whatever) to be the "agent" .

If he's a cool kid that likes to go to new places (new movie theaters, etcetera) he could call new businesses, or send a letter, and offer to become their unofficial "teen beat" reviewer. He'd write surveys, pass them out to friends or to patrons at the new business, collect the surveys and tabulate the results, sell the information to the business as a self-employed single-employee marketing research firm. If he writes about the new business in his school newspaper, the business gets good free publicity. Target Teen-friendly businesses, like new restaurants, movie theaters, skating rinks, music stores, etcetera.

Hope you had fun thinking about my ideas.

You could throw a neighborhood carwash....charge $5 per car.

1. hit up yard sales and buy up used cds, records (no tapes) that are in good condition. normally 50 cents or so, specially if you bargin. bring them home, use a automotive polish on the playing side to polish it, some windex on the case. Then take them to a used record store for trade in. Avg brings $1 to $3.50 each. Nice profit margin for 50 cent investment.

2. offer cleaning services, babysitting, elderly watching (babysitting), etc. Many people are starting to have their older parents at home or need someone in the area just to check in on them. Nice way to make side cash. Say stop in on an old lady to say hi, check her mail, make sure stove isn't on, etc. Stay 30 mins, do this daily. Family pays you $50 per wk or $10 per 1/2 hr of work.

3. yard sales, thrift stores and other odd's n ends, buy up nice little things and sell them on ebay, yahoo auctions (if still around) amazon and such places. just would have to have a parent set up the account as you need a bank account. But you could do the work and make the money.

4. Get into making crafts, dolls, something. Then go to the flea markets and craft shows on the weekend to sell your product. Can also sell them on ebay and other places, even your own web site. Can set up a shopping cart and all real easy using paypal.

5. deliver newspapers, flyers, ad's, coupons, etc. many of these type of companies employee teens under 16. My first job was a paperboy at 14 then a broom sweeper at a Catholic school at 15 then normal job at 16.

6. Check out craigslist and other such items daily for items that you could do. I told a teen the other day to offer a service of making myspace, youtube and other suck pages for business's to link to their web sites. As most business, aka adults have no clue how to do this. They laughed. Then last night I saw an ad on craigslist for a major company seeking a teen to do just that. Offer the service for like $50 or $100 for the set up, making, design, posting info. Even blogs. Many people are making their web sites from blogs. Meaning no real design knowledge is needed.

7. just litterally walk up to people, some will say no so expect that, but just ask " what can I do for you as work or as a service to earn a few bucks? ". Most adults will like your spunk and attitude, and the good ones will either have something for you, or find something for you to do. Yrs ago when I ran a restaurant I had a 13 yr old do that to me. He became my coupon door to door boy every week for $45. Rode his bike.
