Really confused on stocks??????

this is a school project, i understand most of the project except for how many shares i have.

let me clarify this,
we begin with $25,000 to invest in five different companies ($5000 each)
i choose all my companies, i understand the closing price, but i don't know where i could find the shares i have???
its probably an easy question, but i really don't understand it. please help.

if the question doesn't make sense please tell me, i will try to clarify it more.

if you invested 5,000 into a "company" then take the 5,000 and divide the closing price into it. Your answer will be the how many shares you brought. You only do this the first time to get your shares of stock for this project.

For example the closing price was $100.00 and you "invested" $5,000 you "bought" 50 shares total no more or no less. I hope you understand this and good luck.

deduct the closing cost from $5000 then divide it using the price per share at the time when you bought the stock. That is how much stock you have.

Go to a broker like Schwab or Ameritrade or Etrade that offers paper trading. They may let you download such an account from their website. Then you'll have all the tools, charts, etc, and can instantly see what you have and how it is doing.

Have fun!

$5000/company invested in. You mentioned you know what the Closing Price was of each company, but that ultimately means nothing unless you are a Mutual Fund or engaging in after-hours trading. I am assuming you are not making Limit Orders, and since this is just a class project, the open price for the following morning should work.

What companies did you invest in? Look up their ticker symbol on Yahoo! Finance (you can actually just type in the name and Y!Finance will look it without the Ticker Symbol). This will tell you the current value of the stock price, and you will be able to check the history of the stock price for the market price when you made your purchase.

Hope this helped.

Each $5,000 divided by the closing price should tell you the amount of shares you have in that stock. Do that for each stock
