You would need to open a trading account. Scottrade and TDAmeritrade are great brokerages to start off with. Its best to buy an ETF (Exchange Traded Fund). SPY and IWM are two good ones that follow the S&P 500 and Russell 2000, respectfully. Pick up a few shares and let the market recover and sell for a profit.

At this point, you would need a firm such as Scottrade, TradeKing or others that you can sign up for. There are many different brokerages that you could possibly use. If you're new, it couldn't hurt to pick up a few books on investing as well.
