Investments - Property or managed fund? or put extra $100 wk into mortgage. Have $28000 equity in home.?

I am the wife! Own our own business - doing well, have other stable income to fall back on if needed. both 30ish 3 dependants, I'm keen to have a go - not be too conservative, probably middle road risk.

If you are going to use the equity in your home, you would probably just be better off selling the home and renting (bascially what you will be doing). Depending on your mortgage rate, if it is fixed and below 6%, I would take the extra $100/week and put it into mutual funds. If you get stuck and need the money, you can sell the funds. If you put it towards your house and you get stuck, you have to take out a high rate HELOC loan. You do not want to get stuck like the guy at the top (sorry to hear what happened to him)

It depends on the level of risk you are willing to take. If you are near retirement or very conservative, then put the extra $100 into your morgage. Me, I had an extra $34,000 in home equity and I invested $25,000 of it in high dividend stocks. Unfortunately I got burned. The stocks were doing fine. In fact I was returning 10-20% annually for 3 years. The wife lost her job and has not been able to get anouther job since, at least nothing reliable. Because of this, I am now $32,000 in debt with the HELC and no better off with the credit cards and have sold all of my stock just to stay where I am. So, that having been said, how secure are you in your job, your wife's job and your investing strategy? Things to think about. If you wish to IM feel free. .

You may be interested in this new program. It works well with a 30, 20, or 15 year mortgage. I am currently using a HELOC (home equity line of credit) with a new software program that helps build equity fast, and will payoff my home in less than half the time without refinancing, and without extra payments. It is saving me thousands in interest, and pays off home in less than half the years. Those who take an honest look at all the facts and figures from a reputable source will find that this system truly creates a significant advantage for homeowners. E-mail me if interested.
