Investment is a term with several closely-related meanings in business management, finance and economics, related to saving or deferring consumption. An asset is usually purchased, or equivalently a deposit is made in a bank, in hopes of getting a future return or interest from it. Literally, the word means the "action of putting something in to somewhere else" (perhaps originally related to a person's garment or 'vestment').


A private equity investment vehicle is an instrument for enabling pooled investments by a number of investors in equity and equity-related securities in private companies. The vehicle can take the form either of a company or of a similar arrangement such as a limited partnership, or, as in some countries, an investment fund. The management of the vehicle can either be conducted by the vehicle itself or, as is increasingly common, by a separate management company or manager providing services to the vehicle.
