Signing up to trade on the Web as an individual trader, can I invest in funds from Pacific Rim Nations?

As an American investing online, am I limited to investing only in American Stock Exchanges? Is there a way to diversify into offshore trading online, without going through a large brokerage firm?

There are index funds and index options and futures for almost every stock market and sector in the world.

You can short the Nikkei or you can buy Swiss Francs or you can buy/sell Sony (ADR - American Depository Receipts).

I trade thru TerraNovaOnline, and can trade futures, stocks, commodities, forex, the whole shebang. There aren't very many other brokers that do it all. They also have one of the best Trading Platforms and charting packages in the world. They are technological leaders, and if you want, this is the home of the Day Trader.

A lot of funds or investments are not available for purchase by buyers from out of country. The reason being tax rules and non compliance of gains/dividend reporting from one country to the other. The IRS wants the taxes and you ned to be able to determine the amount - which can be almost impossible if you buy from other countries.

The easiest is going through a cheap online broker, they have many thousands of funds, stocks and everything else from the global market. And if you buy this way you make sure you get exact reporting of the gains as the IRS wants it.
