Is it better to open an investment account with your commercial bank or with an investment firm?

I use Bank of America as my savings bank, and they also have an investment branch. Is it better to just go with them to open an investment account or to use a specialized firm such as Fidelity?

I understand that you may feel some loyalty to your savings
bank, however, I feel that an investment firm would be the better choice because they are professionals that specialize
in investments and have more knowledge of what the best investments may be for your money. Usually investment firms have securities representatives that are very highly trained to understand what your risk tolerance may be and where to place your money to get the best results for your particular situation. I don't feel that you get that same expertise from the people handling your money at the bank. It's like the difference between taking your car to a dealership that handles the make and model of the car you drive as opposed to a service station. The diagnostic equipment and technicians that the dealership has will be better equipped to take care of the maintenance needed on your car than a service station.

Most banks will try to sway one into investing in their own (higher cost) financial instruments. Be suspicious of their advice and recommendations. Report It

Invetment is a function od risk appitite and the age...time period and the return u like to have.So evalute these options and then select whether bank/ or investment banker / or companies like fedility meets the above parameters.

not the bank. limited options & often higher fees. Schwab likely best

Some banks offer competitive rates on investment services, but in general, an internet brokerage such as Scottrade will be cheaper. It depends on what services you're looking for. Check out the schedules of fees and compare them.
