Are ETF's of foreign closed funds treated as passive foreign investments. I.E. CEF Closed End Canadian Fund. That is an excellent question. The fund is actually managed by a Canadian company but trades on the U S stock exchange. I suggest that to be absolutely sure, send an email to the address posted below. passive, yes, but I don't thing foreign investment, because the etf is a security (irrespective of what stock/bonds it holds) issued in the US by a US issuer. |
