What can I do? |
I鈥檓 24, about to turn 25. I鈥檓 going to be graduating, hopefully, with my bachelors in Game Design in about 4 weeks. I have no job and have been unable to find one in the past few months or so. I have no money, bills are looming, and everything just seems hopeless. When someone like myself with almost 2 degrees and a HS Diploma gets turned down for the simplest of jobs such as stocking shelves it just seems hopeless to go on. I鈥檝e tried just about everything I can to find a job, get money, anything but to no avail. My girlfriend, whom I live with, has recently lost her job that was giving us some kind of income and she is also unable to find a job. Our families are unwilling and unable to help us with any kind of financial situation as they have either helped us already, don鈥檛 think we are worth it, or just don鈥檛 have the means to help. Welfare is keeping us down as they haven鈥檛 been able to help us with anything. Any place we have gone to to get funds to pay for rent, bills, or just an any kind of cash assistance have denied us because we either do not meet the requirements or they do not have any funds available whenever we apply. Our friends can鈥檛 help us either as they all have problems of their own, have no money due to bills, or have already helped us and have nothing more for us. What can we do? Where do people go who have no friends, family, or anyone to help them when they really need it? Is there some place that can always help no matter what when it comes to this sort of thing? Does anyone have any idea about anything that might help? It doesn鈥檛 seem like a serious problem compared to most but it truly is which I think our family and friends fail to realize. Is moving back in with your parents homes an option (for the meantime), to cut the big expense of rent down? intern on a radio show get someone to write a good resume. go to macys and have a professional shopper choose some suitable business attire. practice your interviewing skills and if that fails to help i suggest you join the military. Listen, there is no such thing as no hope. If you guys are in such a dire situation you take ANY job...ANYTHING...you go to McDonalds and beg for fry-basket cleaning duty...you go to home depot and offer to sweep up the sawdust off the ground... If you haven't already, apply to game companies to work in Quality Assurance. You will not get hired as a game designer, despite your degree. Quality Assurance requires very little experience, and companies are almost always looking to hire new QA testers. If you can't find openings in QA, try customer service, production, billing, facilities management, any job posting the company has on their webpage (besides design, programming, art, and executive, which would be long shots to say the least). I don't know of a single game studio that isn't looking to hire for at least one spot, and your degree in game design does mean that you know a bit about game production, even if it doesn't qualify you to work as a game designer. Check out the map here: http://gamedevmap.com/ to find game studios near where you live. |
