Deposit money order or cashiers check into bank account? Anyone work at a bank?

This is not a foreign scam, but may sound a bit strange.

My income tax refund is coming in. I have an account with my husband and an account with just my name on it.

I am going to have my refund direct deposited into the account that is just mine.

Since he is a gambler, I don't want him to know the full refund amount we have and I only want to deposit about half of this into our joint account so I can save the rest.

How can I withdraw the funds from my personal account and deposit into our joint account so it looks like it is coming from the IRS direct deposit?

If I deposit cash, he will see online that it is cash. If I deposit a cashier's check, will he be able to see my name on it as the purchaser?

By the way, I did file electronically and entered the info to split the funds into 2 accounts. However, apparently if it is a Federal return (only and not state too) it can only go into one account. This is what I was told by the IRS today.

Culd you not ask the bank if they can split the deposit into the seperate accounts when you pay it in?

If not just pay it into your account and then write a cheque out of your personal account and deposit the sum into the joint one.

When you filed your taxes you should have done a split deposit. There is no way to make it look like is coming from the IRS now.

That's a tough one. You cannot make it seem that your withdrawl from your private account and deposit into the joint one came from the IRS.

i work for a bank and the only way that i think you may be able to do it is by doing a bill payment from your account to the joint account with a refrence if IRS or something but if he looks into it in detail he will see who it is from

If you deposit a money order or cashiers check, it is just going to show as a deposit. If he gets curious and asks about the deposit, the bank will be able to bring up a copy of the transaction so that he can see exactly what was deposited.
