Is there state or federal aid for those unable to pay medical bills?

My grandparents have just moved to the United States; they had a minor precedure done at the hospital. The hospital fees were wavied somewhat because of their no income status. However, there is about 600.00 dollars of Pathology bills that are from a separate company which the charity care from the hospital will not cover. My question is: are there any federal, state or private funds/organization in which they can apply to that will help them out with the bills? We live in New jersey. thanks

No, and I believe as recent immigrants, they aren't eligible for ANY federal aid.

They can always ask at their church for help, or they can ask all their kids and grandkids to chip in $25 a piece.

Whoever sponsored them is responsible for paying their bills as they signed as guarantor with the INS.
