How do i report my grad school fellowship to the irs? |
its from a university in MA however i was living in CA while receiving the funds. So, do i report this as CA or MA income? Whether your fellowship is taxable or not depends on the purpose for which it was used. Room, board and travel are all taxable. If you are a candidate for a degree at an eligible educational institution, tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment are non-taxable. Refer to page 4 of IRS Publication 970 for more detail: |
