What should I do about a business partner who allows his wife to steal from checking account?

I took on a business partner who paid to own half of business. His wife was stealing from the checking account and altering and deleting bank statements. He informed me he had opened a checking account for the business. However his name appears on check as well as in very small print at signature line appears the company name. My partner claimed to have no knowledge of the missing funds until he went an got bank statment from bank since the copies his wife were turning in had been altered. I terminated the partnership immediately. What else can I do about this since I never had my name placed on the checking account but all funds deposited were proceeds from daily income of business.

Your ex-business partner was committing felony embezzlement. Keep the financial records and every single piece of evidence you can find that shows fraudulent activity (including printouts of altered bank statements) and file a police report. Then, sue him in civil court for restitution of all the funds he stole from you, plus interest and penalties.

It's theft! You can give her a choice,re-pay the money and stay away or you'll press charges. What would you do if your significant other was doing it?

id move on and forget them.... restart the business with another name if you want and get away from them fast

WoW you mean you were a business partner but didn't have your name on the account! What kind of business are you running? I would leave it alone. Book it as a lesson learn. Well some people never learn

what are u after? the money or punishment..?????
money................tell your ex partner you will prosecute if you don't get your $$$$$$$$$$$$$ back within a month.........and MEAN IT..............if you don't mean it, they will know................if they don't pay, .get a lawyer and contact the police

Open a new account.

Depends on the amount of money involved. If it is significant. sue them. You will then be able to get unaltered statements from the bank and figure out how much is missing.

If it's chump change, you can do it yourself in small claims court if you can get the evidence.

You need to consult with a lawyer. Usually the first half hour of consultation is free, you can get a good feel for what's needed just from the consult.
