Allocation of my 401k Plan?

I just started a new job and am not that familiar with 401k plans. So i just wanted to know if anyone had any advice for where i should allocate. I have 8 options i can invest into: INVESCO Stable Value Trust, INVESCO Core Fixed Income Trust, American Funds Balanced, American Fundamental Investors Fund, Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund, AIM Constellatoin Fund, Pimco Renaissance Fund, and Massey Energy Stock Fund.

All of those are decent funds. If it were me, I would use all 8 of them.

If I had those choices, this is what I would do: (Your age and time until retirement should be considered).

INVESCO Stable Value Trust, 10%
INVESCO Core Fixed Income Trust 10%
American Funds Balanced, 15%
American Fundamental Investors Fund, 10%
Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund 15%
AIM Constellatoin Fund 10%
Pimco Renaissance Fund 15%
Massey Energy Stock Fund 15%

Again, this is just what I would do if those were my choices.

Do the research and then decide.

First get your asset allocation worked out.

A good rule is your age is your bond allocation %, and the rest is your stock allocation. ie 20 year old has 80% in stocks, and 20% in bonds.

Now, that 80% in stocks, you want about 15% in international stocks. 80% of managed funds (funds where an investment manager picks stocks) don't beat the market benchmark (S&P 500). That means an index fund generally perform very well.

Now look at the fees involved. The higher the fee, the more of your money they are taking. Vanguard is usually very low, and they are a very good company.
