What's the usual standard minimum amount needed to open an account to invest in mutual funds?

There's no standard. Vanguard requires $3000 for most of their funds. T Rowe Price $2500. Oberweis $1000. Other funds require 10K or even 25. If you buy ETFs, however, there's no minimum.

For Malaysian, standard minimum amount to buy mutual fund is RM1000. only (Public Mutual)

There is no standard.

The most common I've seen is $2500. Many will waive that if you do an automatically monthly investment.

In some Mutual Funds you can invest as little as $100.00 USD.

Mutual funds vary as far as minimum, many are as low as a few hundred, remember that they still involve the same risks as stock investing. This link mat have stock investing info you can use http://stock-investing-info.com/
