How do I invest in the Dow Jones index? |
Do I need to buy actual shares of the Dow or do I have to invest through a mutual fund? Could I invest in the Dow by something like the sharebuilder website? There's an exchange traded fund (ETF) that tracks the Dow Jones Industrial Average. You can buy it like a stock. The ticker symbol is DIA. You'd be better off finding a mutual fund that's diversified into things outside the Fortune 500. Look for funds with a long history of performance, preferably with a 10 or 15 year history at a minimum. See what their performance has been during the last 10 years, 5 years, and overall performance since inception. |
