Yes, there is. Let me give you some free sites and some books that are designed for beginners:

- http://www.investopedia.com is the best all-around site for beginners. I would spend hours there when I first started learning.

- I wrote a book that is available for free download at http://www.invest-for-retirement.com . Took me 16 months to complete it. And, I don't even charge any money for it.

- The best pay book on investing is Eric Tyson's book "Mutual Funds for Dummies". Even better than my book

- Another good beginner book is "The Boglehead's Guide to Investing"

- For learning about investing in individual stocks, the best book I've read is the Morningstar book, "The Five Rules of Successful Stock Investing", by Pat Dorsey

- To learn info about any fund you want to investigate, you can look it up for free on http://www.morningstar.com . However, don't pay too much attention to their star rating system. Just use that site to get the cost and asset information for your funds.

When you learn about investing, you will want to focus on these topics:

- Costs. What are loads and 12b-1 fees? What is an annual expense ratio? What is portfolio turnover? What are "mortality expenses" and "surrender fees" of a variable annuity? How do costs effect your returns over the long run.

- Asset allocation. Why the stock to bond ratio of your portfolio is the most important part of your asset allocation. Why do you rebalance your portfolio periodically?

- Reversion to the Mean

- Why past performance or Morningstar Ratings are a poor reason to pick your mutual funds.
