Buy Ford stock or a fund containing Ford?

Ford stock should go up with time, so I want to invest in it. Should I buy Ford stock directly or should I buy some fund which invests in Ford as one of the companies? Please advise and also suggest some funds.

Without more info, I would say buy a mutual fund. Fund holdings change, so the one way you could be sure that you'd always be holding Ford is an S&P 500 Index fund (of which Vanguard has the lowest expenses). As long as Ford remains part of the S&P 500, you know that an index fund will own the stock.

If you really like the company, buy the stock directly, but be sure to follow these rules:

#1 - NEVER put any more than 10% of your total portfolio in any one stock (no matter how good you think it is, or worse, how good you've HEARD it is).

#2 - Figure out your "eject" price, and enter a sell stop order at that amount. Most experts agree that, for most stocks, 10-12% is a good sell stop limit. So, if you buy Ford at $9 a share, put in a sell stop around $8. If it goes down to $8, your broker will automatically sell your shares and limit your loss to about 10%.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Well if you're only interest in Ford, buy Ford stock. A mutual fund could contain stock of other businesses that are doing bad and your gain from Ford won't be as much. Are you speculating for Ford or a particular industry? If its for the industry, but a sector fund. if not, just buy Ford stock.

WHY do you think FORD stock should go up ???

Do you know that they have $167 BILLION in debt..
That's BILLION

They are losing $6 a share and have a negative book value.

The stock market is based on the greater fool theory. People buy stocks with no clue about what they are buying.
It's a legalized pyramid scheme. Some people make fortunes, others go broke buying bargains.

People pay $20 for $5 bills, and pay a commission to do it.

There are many undervalued stocks to choose from every day. Just understand that the stock market is gambling, and not a sure thing. Paper wealth can disappear VERY fast.

buy ford

Neither. It's not going to go up as much as Toyota (TM) or Tata Motors.
